Cladding Cleaning Services in London, Surrey & the South East

Cladding cleaning with fascia and soffits included. PASMA and IPAF accredited. Serving commercial and residential properties across London, Surrey and the South East.

At Prestige External Cleaning, we’ve been cleaning cladding for commercial and residential properties since 2010. We work with clients including the London Fire Brigade, the NHS and Amazon.

Although cladding provides an attractive exterior appearance, it also plays an important role in protecting your building’s structure. Over time, cladding can become susceptible to dirt, grime, algae, moss and pollution buildup, resulting in staining and a dull, discoloured surface. Left uncleaned, this buildup can impact the insulation of your cladding, making it less energy-efficient and increasing your heating bills. In the worst cases, it can also lead to water damage, corrosion, and premature wear of your cladding’s surface, which could have been avoided with regular cleaning.

Our cladding cleaning service removes dirt, grime, algae and stubborn stains to restore both the appearance and protective function of your cladding. We clean all types, including composite, wood, uPVC, and metal, using a safe and effective steam-cleaning method.

Our equipment, which includes access platforms, cherry pickers, rope access, and telescopic poles, enables us to clean buildings of any size or height.

Our Cladding Cleaning Process

Cladding Cleaning - Step 1 Inspection

Inspection & Preparation

We inspect the surface to determine what material your cladding is made from, so we can tailor our cleaning approach. We also look for any areas that need more thorough cleaning, as well as any cracks or damage you may not have noticed.

Cladding Cleaning - Step 2

Risk Assessment and Preparation

We cordon off the area to protect pedestrians and vehicles, and use protective sheeting on surrounding plants and bushes to prevent cleaning products from turning them brown. We also patch test on the least visible part of the surface to ensure our cleaning solutions won’t cause any damage.

Variety of Cleaning Options

Steam cleaning is our preferred method for render cleaning, removing dirt, moss, mould, traffic film, stains, and salt deposits. Our equipment, including cherry pickers and water-fed poles, allows us to reach every area for a thorough clean.

Cladding Cleaning - Step 4 Chemical Treatments

Chemical Treatments

We use chemical treatments to break down organic growth and pollution staining for a deeper clean. These are mixed to the right strength for your cladding material to avoid surface damage. After treatment, we rinse thoroughly to ensure no residue is left on the surface.

Cladding Cleaning - Step 5 Final Inspection

Final Inspection and Aftercare

We carry out a final inspection to ensure there are no patches or marks left on the surface. We also provide maintenance advice and let you know about any issues you may not have noticed, so you can address them.

Steam Cleaning

Steam cleaning uses low-pressure, high-temperature steam to prise contaminants from the surface, killing spores to prevent regrowth. It uses less water and is gentler than pressure washing, helping avoid damage. This method works well for delicate surfaces and heritage buildings with ornate detailing.

Water-Fed Telescopic Poles

A water-fed pole system pumps purified water through a telescopic pole with a brush attachment, allowing us to clean high-level cladding safely from the ground. This method is ideal for taller buildings where access is difficult.

Soft Washing

Soft washing combines low-pressure water with environmentally friendly cleaning solutions to remove dirt, algae, grease and oil without damaging the surface. It's suitable for most types of cladding and is ideal for painted or powder-coated cladding, delicate surfaces and organic growth. It works particularly well on metal cladding using pH-neutral cleaners to avoid damage to its protective coating.

Cladding Cleaning Methods and Equipment

Dirt and Dust

When dirt and dust accumulate on your cladding, it can make your building look poorly maintained and give a negative first impression. Over time, the buildup leads to moisture retention, encouraging moss and algae growth. Dirt and grime can also bond to the surface, causing staining that requires a deeper clean to remove.

Algae, Moss, Mould and Lichen

Algae, moss, mould and lichen absorb and retain water on the surface of your cladding. This creates damp, which causes surface erosion and breaks down the protective coating. Left to grow, they can penetrate the surface, causing deep staining that is difficult to remove.

Bird Droppings

Bird droppings are highly acidic and can cause permanent staining if left too long. The uric acid penetrates deeply into porous surfaces, potentially causing permanent damage. Bird droppings also carry bacteria and parasites, so removing them promptly reduces health risks, particularly in public areas or buildings that handle food, such as manufacturing plants.

Traffic Film and Pollution

If your property is close to a city centre or motorway, your cladding gets exposed to vehicle exhaust emissions, tyre and brake dust and oil residue, also known as traffic film. This creates a stubborn, greasy residue that bonds firmly to the surface and often requires specialist cleaning products to remove.

Efflorescence (Salt Deposits)

Buildings in coastal areas or near roads that are gritted in winter can be affected by salt deposits from sea spray or road salt. The salt absorbs water, causing the cladding to retain moisture, which encourages rust to form. This primarily affects metal cladding such as aluminium and steel.

Common Issues with Cladding

Improve Exterior Appearance and Business Reputation

Keeping your cladding clean ensures your building looks well-maintained to visitors and potential customers. For commercial properties, this helps make a positive first impression and reflects well on your business.

Extend the Lifespan of Your Cladding

Regular cleaning prevents damage from dirt buildup, pollution staining and, on metal cladding, corrosion. This extends your cladding's lifespan and helps prevent future repairs. It's ideal for painted or powder-coated cladding, delicate surfaces and organic growth. It works particularly well on metal cladding using pH-neutral cleaners to avoid damage to its protective coating.

Save on Energy Costs

Cladding acts as a thermal barrier, helping maintain a consistent temperature and improving energy efficiency. Keeping it clean ensures it performs as intended, saving on energy costs.

Comply with Manufacturer Warranties

Some cladding manufacturers require regular cleaning to keep your warranty valid. If you don't keep to the cleaning schedule, it could affect any future claims.
